Kansas MGA to host 2 ABGA shows this month

The Kansas Meat Goat Association will sponsor a weekend of shows April 28 and 29 at the Tri-Rivers Fairgrounds, 900 Greeley Ave., Salina, Kan. Two American Boer Goat Association open shows will be held on Saturday and one ABGA open show will be on Sunday. Events begin at 9 a.m. both days.
Saturday morning includes an open youth meat goat show following the first ABGA open show. Youth across the Midwest are encouraged to participate.
Members of ABGA use the program to receive genetic evaluation of their animals by certified judges to compete for show honors and to market their genetics to the industry. The Saturday morning shows will be judged by Tom Dugas, Newalla, Okla. The Saturday afternoon show will be judged by Joe Teel, Stillwater, Okla. The Sunday show will be judged by Kay Garrett, Muskogee, Okla. The judges are on the approved ABGA Boer goat judge list.
The American Boer Goat Association Sanctioned Show Program is a partnership through the show ring with the American Boer Goat Association, livestock shows/expos and stand-alone shows. The Kansas Meat Goat Association will use the proceeds from the weekend to help fund the 4-H/FFA Grand Drive Meat Goat Show at the Kansas State Fair in September 2012.
Fees and entry forms may be found at www.kmgaonline.net. For more information contact Carol A. Bachofer, president of the Kansas Meat Goat Association, 785-826-7855, or reach her at mulberrymeadows@yahoo.com.
